Cult of Locus

The Cult of Locus is another of the three factions that controls the city of Vigil. Of this particular faction, we know the least. It is unclear how many of them are left, as they often work through proxies and have been known to exist in many different times or places simultaneously. When they do appear, their forms are ever shifting and difficult to comprehend. I saw one of them once maintain a human appearance for a short time, though there was still something deeply unsettling about the illusion.

Many centuries ago, as we measure time, the members of the Cult of Locus were men. Their dimension was being swallowed by a portal to hell that some say they were responsible for opening. To save themselves they took many desperate and drastic measures, not the least of which was the mastering of infernal magic, which is of course forbidden. They survived, in a sense, managing to preserve their stronghold floating over they yawning abyss of hell. There they survived, forever under siege, descending further and further into madness and arcane knowledge. That is, until the !Lost Prophets! retrieved them from their dimensional pocket and struck a bargain with them to defend our world against the forces of the rift many years ago. In return, they now control one third of the City of Vigil, as well as the majority of the continent far to the south. They are a plague on our world, its environs, and inhabitants.

Though arguably demons themselves, the Cult goes to great lengths to combat and control demonkind on our world and beyond. This naturally puts them at odds with the Sera, who are most assuredly demons themselves. They are demigods of infernal magic who see mankind as, at best, material resources.

They were last seen nearly twenty years ago during the great march of the sleepwalkers, which most people believe that they are the cause of. Since their defeat on that night their citadels have all been shut, though at times they emit a droning hum that fills the night air and rob all who hear it of any joy or comfort. There are some who claim that they are becoming active once more in the city once more. These are only rumors of course, but only a fool ignores rumors.

Spectre’s notes:
(Written in first person perspective from the Cult’s Point of View)

We opened the rift in Vigil, and people blindly walked towards it, which is when the new spectres were saved by the Wardens.

Because the Wardens saved some people, this spell failed to summon the power of Scarlett’s father.

The summoning for whatever reason took place in hell 6 years prior to its occurance here on Earth. Thus, Scarlett knew about it before it happened.

Scarlett jumped through the summoning, and was immediately grabbed by the Sera. She ran to the Wardens for protection, and she informed them of the summoning that was going to happen. However, the wardens trapped her in a summoning circle. The wardens were supposed to let her out after they found out if her information was true or not.

Either the information was inaccurate, or the operation failed, and many of the wardens died successfully killing 1, instead of 3, Cultists.

The Wardens proceeded to keep a hold on Scarlett, and tried to kill her numerous times.

The Cult is now after the Spectres because their spell can still be performed so long as all of the spell components are present (or something). We’ve set up traps around the city to lure the Spectres out of hiding.
